it’s payback time

We spent our entire 5 days of vacation with the kids either in the pool, in the jacuzzi or in the ocean. I proceeded to spend yesterday afternoon with Aliyah in urgent care because she has an ear infection and I didn’t want it worse for the first day of school.

I will also be taking Shayel to placement testing for the swim team on September 1st – she hasn’t has a single formal lesson and is proficient in every stroke but the fly. She actually taught herself the breast stroke and has a backstroke even *I* am jealous of. She could probably swim laps for an hour and not complain.

…I guess it’s payback time for this fish 😉 Time to invest in some swimmer’s ear drops, ultra swim shampoo and a savings plan for swim gear.

2010 Family photos in the aspens

This is our family tradition – to go up further into the mountains (about an hour drive up) and take family pictures surrounded by the amazing color of the aspens. Some years haven't worked out but for the most part, we've done it since Shayel was a baby. It's also a tradition to get a picture of David walking with the girls, it's always cool to see the growth from year to year.

Each year is a different adventure and we always have great stories/memories. One year it was so cold and snowed so miserably the best we could get were a few half-smiles in the snow. Last year we happened upon a hidden away run down cabin. This year, Shayel waded through the water (melted snow from the top of the Rockies mind you – very very cold) to get to a big boulder, then David carried Aliyah (very sexy) and then I set the timer on the camera and jumped from the shore to the boulder and got myself set in 10 seconds in order to get the pic of the whole fam. on the rock. Oh, and the whole time we were wanting to take "fall pictures", it was 85 degrees.

2010-11 first day of school, in pictures

Shayel and Aliyah started the 2010-11 school year yesterday (8/17). Shayel is in 3rd grade and aside from excited butterflies, was as cool as cool could be. Aliyah started kindergarten (half-day) and was spectacularly calm and completely ready. They both had a wonderful day. After school we went to our fav. Asian bistro for an early dinner then went to the toy store, ice cream shop and our fav. coffee shop. What a wonderful beginning to a new school year.
